Saab Key Programming

Mercedes-Benz-3D-Star.pngSaab cars built since about 1994 have an immobilizer system based on coded keys. The addition of a key requires an entirely new transponder and programming. This is usually handled by the dealer using a Tech2 diagnostic tool.

Transponder key

The transponder key comes equipped with an electronic chip. It transmits a signal to the car when it is inserted into ignition. The car then checks to see whether the signal is the same as the one on the key. If the signals match it will open and start. This is a great way to protect your vehicle from theft.

Transponder keys can be an increasingly popular feature for cars, but they are not as safe as traditional metal keys. While the metal parts of a traditional key may be cut and copied, a transponder is protected by an electronic chip. This chip contains a unique code that is embedded into the car's computer to identify it.

When a saab 9-3 replacement key key fob is used the car recognizes it and allows it to turn on. The car can only recognize the key fob if the device has a chip that is unmodified and programmed to match. The car will not start in the event that the key has not been programmed to match.

It's essential to ensure that you have an extra key for your Saab. This is especially important if you reside in a rural region that has numerous car thieves. The good news is that it's possible to obtain a replacement key for your saab key code without having to go to a dealership and pay the high prices that they demand. You can have a replacement key made on the spot for less than half of what you would spend at an auto dealer.

Wired key

saab Ignition key Replacement cars are usually delivered with two keys. If you only have one, you should purchase an additional key as quickly as you can. This is because if it's lost, the car will need an entirely new CIM and the locking cylinders replaced. This could be expensive particularly if you are buying a used car.

The next step is connecting the wires of columns and row to your microcontroller. This is the toughest part of the project, and will require lots of soldering. It's not a common way to do it, but you should plan how to route and connect each column and row. There are 22 microcontroller wires and pins that you can connect for this keyboard. It includes 5 rows and 17 column.

After the columns and rows are joined then it's time to connect the key switches. Solder a diode on each key switch pin. This will protect the pins from current, preventing them from getting shorted. The diode will only allow the flow of current to be in one direction, and has a an indicator of black color that shows the direction in which current will flow.

Sanabria states that some of the tools available in auto parts stores, such as the Autel MaxiIM IMM608PRO and IM508 will assist customers shopping or DIY users to program replacement keys and restore immobilizer data. The tools plug into OBD ports and help the customer through each step which makes the process much easier than replacing the vehicle's computer.

Jump-starting the battery

The majority of people have an item in their trunks to start a vehicle in the event of an emergency, but it may not be the best idea for vehicles that are newer. These vehicles are equipped with digital and computer systems that communicate with each other. A surge of voltage when the battery is connected to another could cause damage to the components making your car inoperable.

Start the vehicle that is working and allow it to run for around two minutes before you connect the cables to the non-working one. Attach the red clip on the positive terminal of the battery that's good. (It will read "POS" or "+".) Attach the other end of the black cable to a clean, unpainted metal surface beneath the damaged car's hood--the engine block is an excellent choice. Do not connect the black cable to the negative terminal on the dead battery as this could cause an ignition that ignites the gasoline in the engine bay.

After the cables have been connected, start the car and let it run for about five minutes. Then, disconnect the cables in reverse. Remember that the battery on the Saab 9-3 gets recharged when you drive, and it may take some time to get the battery back to its original level. It is recommended to purchase a second key fob, as soon as you can. The replacement of the one that works requires the installation and programming of a brand new computer chip.

Replacement case

Many saab spare key owners only have one key for their vehicle and if they lose it, it's going to cost them. The reason is that it's not cheap to add a new key, and it involves replacing the CIM (Column Integration Module) or TWICE on older models, as well as programming. It's best to have a backup key in the event of theft or any other catastrophe, and the best way is to purchase a second key as quickly as you can. Even when the key is "new", it will not function.

Most locksmiths cannot help you if you have only one working key and the dealer will charge high prices to replace the computer in your vehicle for a replacement. We can reset and reprogram the computer's EEEPROM to get it ready to accept a new key without the need to replace the entire system. This can save you a lot of money. It's less expensive instead of waiting until you lose the sole key.
